Andrea M. Corcoran is the founder and principal of Align International, LLC, a financial regulatory consultancy. She is currently an adjunct professor of futures regulation at Georgetown Law Center. She was appointed an independent director on the board of NYSE Liffe U.S. on March 23, 2010. [1][2]

Corcoran is also the chair of the Securities Advisory Board of the Toronto Centre, a Senior Fellow at the Samuel and Ronnie Heyman Center on Corporate Governance at Cardozo Law School, and a member of the CESR Consultative Panel.

She is the author of numerous publications on listed derivatives markets, regulation of the U.S. financial markets, bankruptcy, and risk management, including the article, "In praise of markets: Why confidence loves transparency - an essay" which appears in the February 2009 issue of Focus, the monthly newsletter of the World Federation of Exchanges. www.world-exchanges.org/files/focus

She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2013, she was inducted into the Futures Industry Association's Futures Hall of Fame, which was established in 2005 to commemorate outstanding contributions to the global futures and options community.[3]

Background[edit]

Corcoran was previously a managing director at Promontory Financial Group.

For the majority of her career, she held director level positions at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission: Office of International Affairs (1997 to 2006) and Trading and Markets (1982-1997). She also chaired the IOSCO Implementation Task Force, which developed a method for testing compliance with the IOSCO Objectives and Principles of Securities Regulation, and served in senior positions at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission addressing issues such as specialist bankruptcy regulations and the crisis interventions and policy responses to the Barings Bank and Sumitomo scandals.

She twice received the highest award for U.S. government service from Presidents Reagan and Clinton, respectively.[4]

Corcoran received an LL.B. from Harvard Law School and an A.B. from Stanford University with honors.
