BOCI Global Commodities (UK) Ltd. is a unit of BOC International Holdings Ltd., an investment banking subsidiary of Bank of China Ltd. On April 24, 2012, BOCI Global Commodities was approved for category two associate broker clearing membership with the London Metal Exchange and became the first Chinese LME member. This membership allows BOCI Global Commodities to trade by phone and electronically.[1]

BOCI Global Commodities applied for membership with the LME on March 28, 2012.[2] The company's metals brokerage team will employ eight people in London, and will need to purchase 25,000 B shares in the LME to activate membership. According to Dow Jones Newswires in April 2012, the LME was rumored to be working on approvals for a network of Chinese metal warehouses.[3]

BOC International Holdings Limited (BOCI) serves as a primary platform for the Bank of China's investment banking business. BOCI was incorporated in Hong Kong on July 10, 1998 and began as China Development Finance Company (HK) Limited in 1979. BOCI established BOCI Securities Limited in Shanghai in February 2002. In partnering with China National Petroleum Corp, State Development & Investment Corp, Hongta Tobacco (Group) Ltd, China General Technology (Group) Holdings Ltd and Shanghai State-owned Assets Operations Co Ltd., BOCI Securities Limited became the first Sino-foreign joint-venture securities firm to be granted a general securities license for Renminbi-denominated ordinary shares (Class A shares). The firm qualified as an innovative securities provider by China Securities Regulatory Commission in 2006.

BOCI has offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing, and has been previously admitted as a clearing member of LCH.Clearnet. BOCI has also received regulatory clearance from the Financial Services Authority.
