Barrick Gold Corporation is a Toronto, Canada based company founded in 1983, engaged in the production of and exploration for gold. The company leads the gold industry, with 25 operating mines and a pipeline of large, long-term projects located across five continents, in addition to large land positions on some of the most prolific mineral districts.[1]

In 2009, Barrick produced 7.42 million ounces of gold at total cash costs of $466 per ounce or net cash costs of $363 per ounce and 393 million pounds of copper at total cash costs of $1.17 per pound2.

The company is targeting organic growth in gold production to 9.0 million ounces by 2015, once its world class Pueblo Viejo and Pascua-Lama projects come onstream, and as additional opportunities are developed around existing mine sites.

Barrick Gold Corp. is a member of the World Gold Council.[2]

On July 16, 2014, the company unveiled a new executive management structure in which its president and chief executive Jamie Sokalsky would step down effective Sept. 15 and the position would be filled by senior executive vice-president Kelvin Dushnisky and executive vice-president Jim Gowans, acting as co-presidents.[3]

Under Sokalsky, who took the job after the sudden exit of Aaron Regent, Barrick sold off less-profitable mines, cut operating costs and reduced debt.

Barrick’s annual gold production fell more than 30% between 2013 and 2017 to 5.32 million ounces.[4]
