Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a charitable foundation started by Bill Gates and Melinda Gates. The foundation is dedicated to fighting hunger in developing countries, improving education in America's high schools and developing vaccines against malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS.

The organization's assets were $30 billion as of January of 2009. Gates decided to increase donations in 2009 to $3.8 billion, up 15 percent from 2008. Microsoft Office veteran Jeffrey Raikes was appointed chief executive of the Gates Foundation in September of 2008.[1]
