A block is a collection of data entries, which are stored on a blockchain. Each block is timestamped and encrypted once it has been added to the blockchain, making it almost impossible to alter. New blocks are added typically by set increments of time. For example, Ethereum's blockchain adds new blocks every 15 seconds.[1][2]

The very first block in a blockchain is referred to as the "genesis block."[3][4]
