From 1980 to 2013, Randell worked for the law firm of Slaughter and May, where he specialized in corporate finance law, and focused on financial stability and bank restructuring assignments. He became a partner in 1989.
From 2014 to 2016, Randell was a non-executive director and chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for the Department of Energy and Climate Change. From 2014 to 2017, he undertook consulting work related to legal risk management outside the financial services sector.
Randell received his MA from Trinity College, Oxford and completed his Solicitors' Final Examination at the College.
