The company also provides its customers with market data, listing services for ICO developers, and development tools for creating an ICO, dApps on COBINHOOD's platform.[3]

"Free Tokens"[edit]

COBINHOOD includes a section on its site called "Free Tokens," which is reserved for airdrops and similar services. One of these is COBINHOOD's "Candy Machine," which gives customers digital "tickets" that can be used to potentially win digital assets. These are distributed to reward customers for using COBINHOOD'S services as well as for referring customers to COBINHOOD.[4]

ICO Rating Security Report[edit]

In January 2019 the independent crypto markets analysis firm ICO Rating ranked 135 of the world's most popular cryptocurrency exchanges. Kraken was ranked at #1, just above COBINHOOD, with a solid "A" score. COBINHOOD was the only other exchange to receive an "A" rating; there were no exchanges that earned an "A+."[5]

CEO Departure[edit]

COBINHOOD disclosed on May 6, 2019, that at the end of April it had fired CEO Tai-yuan ("Popo") Chen due to his conflicts with investors and company personnel. The company ordered its employees to work from home until their "personal safety can be ensured."[6] Chen was a co-founder of COBINHOOD and was also a co-founder of DEXON Foundation crypto services.[7] At the time of COBINHOOD's announcement regarding Chen, the company was promoting DEXON on its website.[8]

Shutdown[edit]

COBINHOOD announced on January 10th, 2020 that it would be shutting down until February 9th, 2020 with plans to reopen the following day. The company also said that it would be auditing all accounts’ balances and migrating all data, as well as offering refunds to all its customers. As of the Jan 10th announcement, the COBINHOOD website still redirects users to a refund page and all social media platforms have been quiet. The shutdown is thought to be connected to the departure of CEO Tai-yuan Chen and the related problems associated with it.[9] [10]
