Department of Commerce
|Department of Commerce|
The U.S. Department of Commerce has a mandate to advance economic growth and jobs and opportunities for the American people. It has cross-cutting responsibilities in the areas of trade, technology, entrepreneurship, economic development, environmental stewardship and statistical research and analysis. The Secretary of Commerce oversees a $6.5 billion budget.
In response to President Obama’s Open Government Directive, the Department of Commerce in April of 2010, released its first iteration of its Open Government Plan. The plan creates a process for making more data available to the public and identifies three flagship Open Government initiatives that help make the Commerce Department more accessible and interactive.
