In its May 2019 request for public comment titled Issues, Risks and Regulatory Considerations Relating to Crypto-Asset Trading Platforms, the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) christened a new term, crypto-asset trading platforms (CTPs). CTPs are often referred to as cryptocurrency exchanges, although use of the term "exchange" might imply formal recognition under regulation that in 2019 did not exist.[1] In addition, most CTPs that custody customers' crypto-assets conduct business as dealers, being the actual counterparty to customer transactions.
