Daniel P. Collins is a Chicago-based freelance financial journalist and futures market professional. He is the former editor-in-chief of Futures Magazine, a publication he returned to in December of 2013 after having left the magazine in January 2013 following its sale to The Alpha Pages. He replaced longtime Futures Magazine editor and publisher Ginger Szala as editor-in-chief.[1] Modern Trader ceased publishing in 2018.

Background[edit]

After leaving Futures Magazine in early 2013, he continued to contribute to it on a regular basis. He was intermittently listed by Futures Magazine at an editor-at-large.

Also after leaving Futures Magazine, he started his own futures-centric blog, The Dan Collins Report. Collin's blog focused on futures, commodities, managed futures, alternative investments and trading in general.[2]

Previously, he served as the Futures Magazine's managing editor.[3] He joined Futures in January of 2001.

Collins began his full-time journalism career at Futures Magazine after working in the futures markets since 1989 in various roles on the trading floors of the CBOT and CME.

From 1996 to 2000, Collins worked for Sakura Dellsher, a futures clearing firm founded by CME Group Chairman Emeritus Leo Melamed.

Education[edit]

Collins holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Drake University in Iowa.
