David Schwimmer is a London-based lawyer and exchange and investment banking executive who currently serves as the CEO of the London Stock Exchange Group Plc, having taken the post on August 1, 2018. He was appointed to that role following a 20-year career at Goldman Sachs and replaced interim CEO David Warren, who retained his role as chief financial officer. Essentially, Schwimmer succeeded longtime LSE CEO Xavier Rolet.[1][2][3][4]

Background[edit]

Schwimmer is a New York native who spent two years as an associate at the law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell before joining Goldman's financial institutions group, focusing on market structure, brokerage and trading. He later served as chief of staff to then-chief operating officer Lloyd Blankfein. He has extensive experience advising corporate clients on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and other transactions.[5]

He was also one of the main architects of the acquisition of Archipelago Holdings Inc. by the New York Stock Exchange in 2006.

He is fluent in Russian and spent three years in Moscow running Goldman’s business there.

Education[edit]

He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Yale University, a law degree from Harvard Law School [6] and a postgraduate degree in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.[7]
