Dawn DeBerry Stump was a commissioner at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission from September 2018 to April 2022. In August 2022, she was appointed as an advisor to Solidus Labs, a crypto risk monitoring firm.[1]

She was confirmed as a CFTC commissioner by the US Senate on August 28, 2018.[2] She is a Republican who was nominated by former President Donald Trump in July of 2017.[3][4] [5]

On December 9, 2021, Stump announced she would not seek another five-year appointment at the end of her current term in April 2022.[6]

During her career in Washington, DC, Stump has served as a consultant, exchange executive, lobbyist, legislative aide and founder of Stump Strategic, a public affairs firm aimed at bringing business and government together to address issues in financial services through advocacy, education, and coalition development.[7]

Background[edit]

Prior to joining the CFTC, Stump served as senior vice president and head of government affairs for the Futures Industry Association (FIA) and acted as the executive director of its Americas Advisory Board.[8] She was appointed to the position on August 23, 2012 and began serving on September 10, 2012. She worked on strategic planning for members' advocacy, coalition building in Washington, and government education.[9]

Before joining the FIA, Stump was a senior vice president of government affairs at NYSE Euronext in Washington D.C. [10]

Stump held several staff positions for members of both the House and Senate Agricultural Committees from 2001 to 2010, including as a legislative adviser to the Senate committee's ranking Republican, Saxby Chambliss. As a staffer, she assisted with the oversight of the CFTC, the reauthorization of the Commodity Exchange Act and the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act.[11][12]

Stump received a degree in Agricultural Economics from Texas Tech University. [13]
