FIA Hall of Fame copy.jpg The FIA-Japan chapter of the Futures Industry Association (FIA) [1], organized as a non-profit organization in 1989, is the only international organization in Japan dedicated to spreading the understanding and appreciation of futures and options markets.

Background[edit]

FIA Japan was formed by foreign and Japanese futures industry participants representing a broad cross-section of the futures industry. The chapter monitors and comments on Japanese legislative and regulatory developments and exchange rules affecting the futures and options markets and its participants. It provides a forum for discussion of industry matters and provides training, seminars and information about Japan and international market practices and regulations.

Membership[edit]

Current membership consists of more than 50 foreign and domestic organizations: FCMs, securities firms, banks, futures exchanges and futures associations and other professional firms and technology providers aligned with the industry.

FIA Asia[edit]

In addition to FIA Japan, FIA Asia was recently launched and is supported by the Futures Industry Association Washington. The division aims to provide useful services for its Asian members and the Asian futures industry in general. Its mission is: to service its members by providing timely information about Asian-listed futures and option markets; to provide members and the industry in general with educational opportunities about listed derivatives products; to promote standardization and best practices among markets to enhance the efficiency and resiliency of the markets to benefit all participants; and to provide industry input to market officials on key issues. Benefits of membership will be guided by the membership itself and will focus on the needs and priorities of the members.

In July 2007, FIA Asia hired Nick Ronalds as senior advisor. Ronalds also led the group until February 2012, when Bill Herder was hired to be the executive director of FIA Asia.
