Gina Talamona is communications director at the Securities and Exchange Commission. She was appointed to that position in May 2014 after a 28-year career at the U.S. Department of Justice.[1] She reports to SEC Chair Mary Jo White.

Background[edit]

Before joining the SEC, Talamona spent her public service career at the U.S. Department of Justice, which she joined in 1986 as a speechwriter for the attorney general. In 1999, she became deputy director of DOJ’s Office of Public Affairs, serving in the highest role for a career official. She also served as a spokesperson for various litigating divisions and developed and implemented media strategies for high-profile law enforcement and policy matters.

She received numerous awards for her work at the Department of Justice, including the Antitrust Division’s Award of Distinction.

Talamona received her bachelor's degree, as well as masters degrees in political science and public administration, from American University in Washington D.C.
