Greg Tanzer is one of the four commissioners of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). He was appointed to the position on March 5, 2012. [1] Tanzer most recently served as secretary general of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).[2]

Background[edit]

Prior to joining IOSCO, Tanzer was the head of consumer protection and international affairs at ASIC. He left the Australian regulatory agency in 2008 to accept a three year term as secretary-general of IOSCO. Although his tenure was renewed in 2011, he resigned from IOSCO in November 2011 to return to ASIC as one of its commissioners.[3]

Before joining ASIC, Greg worked in the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department and the Department of Finance. He is a qualified solicitor and barrister.
