J. Robert Collins was a 40-year futures trading veteran who founded Rosenthal Collins Group, an independent futures clearing firm.[1] He was regarded as one of the preeminent executives in the industry. Collins died on September 10, 2019 at the age of 77.[2]

In 2017, Collins was named to the FIA Futures Hall of Fame.[3]

Background[edit]

In 1923, his father, John F. Collins, became a clearing member of the Chicago Board of Trade[4]. In 1961 - the year pork bellies were first traded on the CME – his son joined him, and J.Robert Collins subsequently served in management at RCG and its predecessor firms for over 40 years.

In 1968, Collins was elected president of the MidAmerica Commodity Exchange, which became part of the Chicago Board of Trade in 1986. He also served as a director of the CBOT and governor of the Board of Trade Clearing Corporation.
