James W. Bleecker served as the fourth president of the New York Stock & Exchange Board, which in 1863 shortened its name to the New York Stock Exchange. Bleecker followed Edward Lyde as president.[1][2]
Background[edit]
The exchange, which had been created in 1792 with the signing of the Buttonwood Agreement, was formally organized with a constitution drafted in 1817.
