John C. Dore was the first superintendent of the Chicago Public School System, president of the Chicago Board of Trade, and an Illinois State Senator.[1] He was an educator who later pursued a mercantile career and became a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and served as its president in 1866.[2][3] Background[edit]The New Hampshire born Dore first served in the Boston school system following graduation from Dartmouth College. His contributions to the Chicago Public School led to the naming of a school (John C. Dore Elementary School) in his honor.[4] References[edit]
