John M. Ruth was CEO of ABN AMRO Clearing Chicago from May 2013 until he left the firm in 2016. [1] He joined as CEO after a twelve-year career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked most recently as managing director of the investment bank's execution and clearing subsidiary. [2][3][4]


Ruth began his career as a trader at the Chicago Board of Trade, specializing in options on agricultural futures. During his time at the CBOT, he also served as a vice president at First Options of Chicago and also as a founding member of Century Group Trading, LLC.

In 2000, he left the floor to begin his career with Goldman Sachs.[5] He left Goldman in 2012 and, after working for a brief period as a consultant to the financial services sector, he joined ABN AMRO as CEO of clearing in Chicago.


Ruth earned a BA in Economics in 1991 from Indiana University, Bloomington. In 1996 he earned an MBA in Finance from Kellstadt School of Business, DePaul University.
