Marcos Martínez Gavica, the former president of Spanish bank Santander’s Mexican unit, was named chairman of the board of the Mexican Stock Exchange, or Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BVM), in June 2020.[1][2][3]

A 42-year veteran of Mexico's financial industry, Martinez Gavica succeeded Jaime Ruiz Sacristan as top executive of the exchange.[4] Ruiz, the former chairman, died about three weeks after he was hospitalized on March 16 with coronavirus. [5]

His experience includes in the executive office, general management, mergers and acquisitions, technology platforms and social development. He has worked at Citibanamex, Accival, Grupo Financiero Santander, Asociación de Bancos de México.[6]

Martinez Gavica announced his decision to step down from Banco Santander México, S.A., in April 2020 after an almost 23-year career at the bank and its predecessor companies.[7]

Education[edit]

Martinez Gavica attended the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and received his MBA from Instituto Panamericano de Alta Direccion de Empresa. [8] He holds a degree in chemical engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana.
