Michael Davis is an attorney with Ziliak Law, LLC with more than 20 years of experience as an attorney and futures trader. His trading background includes heading a proprietary trading desk for a Chicago trading company as well as trading his own capital as an independent local trader, both on the trading floor and on the electronic markets of the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Immediately before joining Ziliak Law, Davis was an investigator with the CBOE Futures Exchange’s (“CFE”) Department of Market Regulation. In the course of investigating potential trading violations of market participants, he conducted fact finding interviews and audit trail investigations, monitored trading activity and positions of market participants to determine market impact and compliance with exchange rules and regulations, and prepared CFE staff for disciplinary proceedings. During his time at CFE, Davis assisted in the process of formulating and amending exchange rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Though Davis earned his law degree in 1988 and began working as an attorney for Near North Insurance Agency in Chicago, in 1991 he left to become a futures trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. In 2010 he returned to the legal profession to become Of Counsel at the Rothschild Group, a boutique firm specializing in commercial real estate and general business law. He has also litigated for clients in divorce, landlord tenant, and criminal matters.
Davis holds a BBA degree from the University of Iowa and a JD from the Illinois Institute of Technology Kent College of Law.
