Michael Gorham
Michael Gorham is an industry professor and a former director of the IIT Stuart Center for Financial Markets at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.[1] A former director at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC),[2][3][4] He currently serves as a board member of the CBOE Futures Exchange. Gorham serves on the business conduct committees of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and ICE OTC, the editorial boards of the GARP Risk Review and of Futures Industry, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Working Group. Until late 2008, he was also a part of the business conduct committee of the National Futures Association and served on the board of the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange in Mumbai, India. [5] Background[edit]Gorham served as the first director of the CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight from 2002-2004. Prior to the CFTC, Gorham was director of research and international development at the Center for Law and Financial Markets at the IIT, and a consultant in financial markets and derivatives. He also served as managing editor of the Journal of Global Financial Markets. He worked for four years as a research economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and for 18 years at Chicago Mercantile Exchange in a variety of capacities, including vice president in the areas of product development, commodity marketing, education, and international marketing.[6] Affiliations[edit]Gorham serves on the Probable Cause and Business Conduct Committees of CME, the Business Conduct Committee of the National Futures Association, the editorial board of the GARP Risk Review, and the editorial board of Futures Industry. He is also regional director of the Global Association of Risk Professionals for Chicago. Gorham is a member of the Board of Advisors of Optionscity, an Independent Software Vendor.[7] Education[edit]Gorham holds a BA in English literature from the University of Notre Dame, an MS in food and resource economics from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin.[8] Published Works[edit]Gorham is co-author of two books, India's Financial Markets: An Insider's Guide, July 2008, and Electronic Exchanges: The Global Transformation from Pits to Bits, May 2009.
