Nelson Neale is a Minneapolis, MN-based executive in the agriculture and finance sectors, serving in leadership positions at CHS Inc., a globally integrated agribusiness cooperative based in the United States. He holds the titles of president at CHS Hedging, vice president at CHS Inc., and head of CHS Global Research, Inc.[1][2]

Neale was elected a member of the board of the FIA in March of 2024 at the Futures Industry Association's annual meeting, held during the International Futures Conference held in Boca Raton, FL.[3]


Background[edit]

Since June 2019, has served as vice president at CHS Inc. and president of CHS Hedging in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. In his dual role, he oversees strategic planning, finance, operations, and marketing for CHS Hedging, a futures commission merchant founded in 1986 and a subsidiary of CHS Inc. Neale's role involved business planning, marketing, customer experience, financial reporting, operations, and compliance and leading an operations team of 50 full-time employees plus contractors. Under his leadership, CHS Hedging achieved three of its top five performing years in the organization's history. Additionally, as head of CHS Global Research, Neale has established and leads a new function focused on customer-centric strategic objectives, enhancing market intelligence, thought leadership, data access, and quantitative analysis capabilities for the enterprise.

Prior to joining CHS, Neale was at WinField United, a part of Land O'Lakes, from April 2012 to April 2019, he served as the head of services, finance and risk programs. In this strategic leadership role, he established and marketed service offerings for WinField United Financial Services.

Before joining WinField United, Neale worked as a senior manager of global risk and trading at Oliver Wyman from July 2010 to April 2012, providing strategic management consulting services in commodity, trading, and enterprise risk management for the oil, gas, and power trading industries.

Between December 2009 and September 2010, he served as an independent consultant for the World Bank, offering commodity risk management guidance and analysis for the Agricultural and Rural Development team, focusing on strategies for developing countries.

At Tyson Foods, from February 2004 to May 2009, Neale held the position of senior director of fundamental and quantitative analysis. There, he built and managed a team that provided modeling, forecasting, and risk management analysis for grains, energy, and meats commodities, supporting business divisions and a commodity trading group managing over $1 billion in annual input costs.

Before Tyson Foods, he was an associate director of market risk at UBS Investment Bank from January 2002 to September 2003, where they conducted market risk analysis for physical and financial gas and power products.

His career also includes a stint as manager of research at Enron from November 2000 to January 2002, during which the developed methodologies for forward price curve construction and hedging strategies for emerging market commodities within domestic and global markets.

Neale holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in math from Davidson College and aa Masters in Science degree in engineering from North Carolina State University He also holds a PhD in engineering from Rice University.
