Peter Praet is an Executive Board member of the European Central Bank (ECB). He joined the Board in June, 2011. He formerly served as a board member of the Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission. [1]

Background[edit]

Praet started his career as a research assistant in the Department of Applied Economics and Institute for European Studies, Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in 1973. From there, he served as an economist at the IMF form 1978-1980 before becoming a professor of economics at ULB. After that, he became the Chief Economist for Fortis Bank and eventually took a position as an executive director at Nationale Bank van België.

Education[edit]

Praet earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Université libre de Bruxelles in 1971, 1972 and 1980, respectively.
