Richard "Rich" Repetto is a retired electronic trading and financial technology professional who was most recently managing director at Piper Sandler and principal at Sandler O'Neill + Partners, L.P.[1] He led Sandler O'Neill's research coverage of exchanges, brokerages and specialty finance companies and is a regular media and industry commentator on trends in the sector.[2][3][4]

He joined the board of Interactive Brokers on January 1, 2024 as an independent director.[5]

In 2010, Repetto received the Financial Times/StarMine “Analyst of the Year” Award, which honors his significant career achievements as a leading research analyst and his excellence in investment analysis.[6][7]

Background[edit]

Repetto is a West Point graduate who served five years as a helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army before his 25-year career on Wall Street. He joined Sandler O’Neill in November 2003 from Putnam Lovell NBF, where he was a managing director and the analyst responsible for eFinance and eBrokerage. Prior to this he established research coverage of the online financial services sector at Lehman Brothers in May 1999 as part of the bank's specialty finance team. Before joining Lehman, he had a 10-year career at Mobil in sales and marketing.[8]

Education[edit]

Repetto holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and an MBA in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter Holder and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts (NYSSA) and the CFA Institute (formerly the Association for Investment Management and Research, or AIMR).
