Roel C. Campos is a partner in the business litigation practice at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP [1] where he is the partner-in-chief of the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Campos represents companies in SEC enforcement matters and internal investigations, advising private equity, hedge and mutual funds regarding regulatory matters. Campos also is a member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation.[2]

Background[edit]

Previously, Campos served two terms as a commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission, having joined the Commission in 2002. While at the SEC, Campos presided over complex enforcement cases and participated extensively in the crafting and adoption of the SEC's major regulatory initiatives, including the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, mutual fund governance and compliance rules, and the National Market System.

Prior to joining the Commission, Campos was one of two principal owner-executives of El Dorado Communications a radio broadcasting company in Houston, Texas.

Education[edit]

Campos earned his B.S. from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1971, his MBA from UCLA in 1972 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1979.[3]
