TORA is an independent, privately-owned financial technology firm. The firm provides a full suite of global, multi-asset tools for managing the entire trade lifecycle, including EMS (execution management system), OMS (order management system), PMS (portfolio management system), risk and compliance. While originally known for its EMS, TORA has developed the rest of its platform organically rather than via acquisition, which it claims provides a superior user experience to platforms that have been "hacked together".
History[edit]
TORA was launched in 2004 as a spinout of hedge fund Evolution Capital Management, which had developed the technology to manage its internal trading. As Evolution's trading was largely Asia focused, TORA quickly grew its business in the region, becoming one of the largest EMS providers by market share in Asia-Pacific.[1]. In 2010 Goldman Sachs took a minority stake in Tora[2], followed by Bank of America Merrill Lynch doing the same.
In mid-2016 TORA announced the build-out of its US operations with the hiring of Win Franke as Head of US Sales[3], and in early 2017 announced the expansion of its EMEA business with the appointment of David Tattan as Head of EMEA Business Development[4]. On February 13, 2017 TORA was named "Best OMS Provider" in the HFM US Technology Awards[5]
