Thomas M. Harte is a former managing director of the North American operation of MF Global, Inc.[1] Previously, he was executive vice president of Man Financial, prior to its being spun off by Man Group PLC to form MF Global. He'd been a director with Man Group USA since 1993.[2]


Prior to the creation of MF Global, Harte served as an executive vice president of Man Financial. Harte had been the chief executive officer of Man Financial's New York-based businesses since 2006. He was responsible for the Chicago office from 1995 to 1998.

Harte was responsible for Man Financial's corporate acquisition activities since he move from Paine Webber Inc. in 1993. At Paine Webber, Harte was a managing director of their commercial futures division from 1990.[3]

Additionally, Harte was a senior vice president of Drexel Burnham Lambert from 1980 to 1990 where he was a manager of its institutional futures department in London from 1983 to early 1984 and then in New York through 1990.

He began his career at Blyth Eastman Dillon in 1978 where he was a vice president of corporate strategy and was an architect of their entry into the futures business.

On Feb. 29, 2008, Harte was one of six MF Global executives who purchased shares in the company following a precipitous drop in the price following concern over a liquidity crisis at the firm.[4]


Harte holds a bachelor's degree from Fordham University and a master's in international business from the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management.[5]
