Thomas W. Sexton III is the president and chief executive officer of NFA.[1]

He was promoted to the position after having served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of the NFA.

Sexton rose to president and CEO of the association effective March 1, 2017, replacing Dan Roth, who retired.[2][3] [4]

As president and CEO, Sexton is a frequent panelist at industry conferences and seminars where he speaks on topics pertaining to derivatives industry regulatory issues.

He is a member of the CFTC Global Markets Advisory Committee.

Background[edit]

Sexton joined the NFA in July of 1991 as an attorney, and subsequently was promoted to senior attorney in 1996, assistant general counsel in 1998 and associate general counsel in 2000, and to general counsel and secretary in 2001. As general counsel, he oversaw major regulatory initiatives impacting NFA's members and various enforcement matters.

Before joining the NFA, He served for three years as an associate in the law office of Ogden, Murphy & Wallace in Seattle.

Sexton was one of four executives at the NFA whose bonuses were cut by the NFA board after the Peregrine Financial Group scandal came to light in 2012.[5]

Education[edit]

He holds a law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School, an MBA from Loyola University Chicago and a bachelor's degree in government from the University of Notre Dame.
