The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is a Canadian stock exchange located in Toronto, Ontario. It is owned and operated by TMX Group. It is the largest exchange in Canada and the 9th largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalization.[1] [2] It lists more than 1,500 companies.

TSX closed its trading floor and became fully electronic in 1997.[3]

The top 100 companies on the exchange are tracked by the TSX Composite Index, which accounts for about 70% market capitalization of the Toronto Stock Exchange.

TSX began in 1852 when a group of Toronto businessmen created an association that established the framework for the Toronto Stock Exchange. TSX was formally created in 1861.

The exchange went public in 2002. [4]

In 2007, the TSX merged with the Montreal Exchange (MX) to form the TMX Group.

In December, 2023, TMX Group Ltd., the owner of the Toronto Stock Exchange, agreed to buy ETF index firm VettaFi based in New York. [5]
