Walter E. Auch
Walter E. Auch was a former chairman and CEO of the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He died of cancer on Dec. 14, 2010 at his home in Paradise Valley, AZ.[1] Auch was hired by the CBOE to bring in an outsider who was respected on Wall Street. Background[edit]Auch was born in Detroit and raised in Grosse Pointe, MI. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II, serving as a navigator with the Army Air Force from 1941 - 45, and rising to the rank of captain. Auch started in the securities business in 1946. He was an executive vice president with Paine Webber when he was hired by the Chicago Board Options Exchange to become its Chairman and CEO in 1979. He had also served as executive vice president of National Securities Research Corporation.[2] During his tenure at CBOE, the exchange built its own building that housed the largest trading floor in the world. The CBOE also developed the OEX index options, which would be come the most actively traded options product. The exchange also started the the Options Institute for research and training.[3] Auch was active in the civic community of Chicago and served on the board of directors of the Chicago Civic Opera and the Chicago Grant Park Concert Association.
