The idea of an options contract that expired within one week was first launched in October of 2005 by the Chicago Board Options Exchange based on indexes such as the S&P 500 Index and the S&P 100 Index.* In May of 2010, CBOE expanded their product offering of weekly options to include contracts based on single stocks and exchange traded funds (ETFs). Other exchanges soon followed suit including NYSE Amex, NYSE Arca and Nasdaq.
