Adair Turner was appointed as chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in September 2008. In August 2009, he announced that if needed, he would back a UK tax curbing bonuses at banks where executives were continuing with excessive risk-taking.[1]
He is a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and at Cass Business School, City University; a Trustee of the British Museum, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Until June 2008 he was a non-executive Director of Save the Children UK.[2]
In late January 2012, Turner, Jean-Claude Trichet and Guillermo Ortiz spoke at a debate at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland regarding high-frequency trading as a source of systemic risk. Turner questioned whether or not this type of trading was "limitlessly good."[3]
Background[edit]
Before joining the FSA, Turner was a non-executive director at Standard Charter Bank as well as the vice chairman of Merrill Lynch in Europe. He was also chairman of the Climate Change Committee from 2008 to 2012.
He became a cross-bench member of the House of Lords in 2005 and was chairman of the Pensions Commission from 2003 – 2006, and chairman of the Low Pay Commission from 2002 – 2006.

Turner graduated from Gonville and Caius College in Cambridge with a focus on history and economics.
