Christy Goldsmith Romero is a Washington, D.C.-based financial markets regulator, academic and attorney who currently serves as a commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

She was nominated by President Joseph Biden in September 2021 and confirmed on March 28, 2022.[1][2]

Goldsmith Romero was part of a historic group of four women nominated and confirmed as CFTC commissioners.[3]

Background[edit]

Before joining the CFTC, Goldsmith Romero was a special inspector with the Troubled Asset Relief Program where she was head of a 100-person, nationwide, independent and non-political, federal law enforcement agency and watchdog. She served in TARP for 12 years and was Senate confirmed. During her time with TARP, she also served as chief of staff, deputy special inspector general.

Goldsmith Romero has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia School of Law and at the Georgetown University Law Center.

She spent six years working at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as counsel to Chairman Christopher Cox and counsel to Chairman Mary Schapiro.

She has also been a senior associate counsel at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Goldsmith Romero was also a senior associate at Snell & Wilmer and and associate at Jenner & Block.

She also served as a federal court law clerk in Las Vegas, NV.

Goldsmith Romero holds a bachelor of science degree from Old Dominion University in business administration and a juris doctor degree from the BYU Law School.
