David Knott has been the CEO of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) since June 2005. The DFSA is an independent regulator created to oversee financial and ancillary services conducted from the Dubai International Financial Centre, and also regulates the Dubai International Financial Exchange[1].
Background[edit]
Knott was formerly executive chairman of the Australian Securities & Investments Commission. He joined as deputy chairman in 1999, moving up in November 2000 and leaving at the end of 2003. He was also chairman of the technical committee of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions. Previously he was COO of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, CEO of Commonwealth Funds Management, CEO of the Australian Financial Institutions Commission and a director of the Australian Crime Commission. Knott’s career started with 13 years in private legal practice, specializing in company and commercial law before assuming senior roles in investment banking for a further 10 years. He was a partner of Arthur Robinson and Co (now Allens Arthur Robinson); senior executive director of Capel Court Investment Bank.
