Prior to joining the CFTC, Stump served as senior vice president and head of government affairs for the Futures Industry Association (FIA).[7] She was appointed to the position on August 23, 2012 and began serving on September 10, 2012. She worked on strategic planning for members' advocacy, coalition building in Washington, and government education.

Before joining the FIA, Stump was a senior vice president of government affairs at NYSE Euronext in Washington D.C. [8]

Stump held several staff positions for members of both the House and Senate Agricultural Committees from 2001 to 2010, including as a legislative adviser to the Senate committee's ranking Republican, Saxby Chambliss. As a staffer, she assisted with the oversight of the CFTC, the reauthorization of the Commodity Exchange Act and the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act.[9][10]
