Edward Lyde was the third president of the New York Stock & Exchange Board, which in 1863 shortened its named to the New York Stock Exchange. Lyde served as president from 1824 to 1827 and followed the terms of Anthony Stockholm and G.S. Mumford.
Background[edit]
The exchange, which had been created in 1792 with the signing of the Buttonwood Agreement, was formally organized with a constitution drafted in 1817. Stockholm, Mumford and Lyde subsequently served as presidents following the adoption of the exchange's constitution in 1817.
