Ernst & Young is a global company that offers assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services.
History[edit]
Ernst & Young was founded by Alwin C Ernst and Arthur Young in the 19th century. Young had formed an accounting firm, Arthur Young & Company, with his brother Stanley, and Alwin C Ernst and his brother Theodore had started Ernst & Ernst, a small public accounting firm, in 1903. Ernst pioneered the idea that accounting information could be used to make business decisions and make a difference to clients’ organizations. Young also positioned himself as a business advisor as much as an accountant.
AC Ernst and Arthur Young never met each other and died within days of each other in 1948. In 1989 they were brought together when the firms they started combined to create Ernst & Young.[1]
