Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC)

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency created by the Congress to maintain the stability and public confidence in the nation’s financial system by insuring deposits, examining and supervising financial institutions, and managing receiverships.

The FDIC develops and implements public policies, identifyies and addresses risks in the nation’s financial system, and carries out its insurance, supervisory, and receivership management responsibilities.[1]
