Gibson joined the Fed in 1992 and worked for the division of international finance until 1999. He then joined the research and statistics division, becoming chief in 2000. In early 2011, Gibson became deputy associate director.
He also represents the Basel Committee in an effort to develop consistent margin requirements for uncleared derivatives. Gibson is also works to connect the Federal Reserve Board and the Financial Stability Board.
