Michael Sorrell is a Washington, DC based derivatives lawyer who serves as the deputy general counsel for the Futures Industry Association.[1][2]


Previous to joining the FIA, Sorrell was an associate with Morrison & Foerster LLP for almost two years. Prior to that, he was an associate with Covington & Burling LLP for two years. He had also been a summer associate for Covington & Burling LLP. At Covington & Burling LLP, he was a member of futures and derivatives, energy regulation, and white collar defense and investigations practice groups.[3]

He has also been a law clerk for the Honorable Robert E. Payne, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia


Sorrell holds a bachelor of arts degree in the field of foreign affairs in the distinguished majors program from the University of Virginia. He also holds a doctor of law (J.D.) from the University of Virginia School of Law.
