Nicholas Dunbar is a London-based financial journalist and author and the founder of Risky Finance, a risk data and analysis platform. He was previously a newsletter editor for Bloomberg, editing Bloomberg Risk newsletter.[1] He joined Bloomberg in 2011.

He is the author of "The Devil's Derivatives: The Untold Story of the Slick Traders and Hapless Regulators Who Almost Blew Up Wall Street...And Are Ready to Do It Again" from Harvard Business Review Press. In 2000, he published his first book, "Inventing Money, the story of Long-Term Capital Management and the legend behind it."

Background[edit]

Dunbar trained as a physicist at Cambridge and Harvard University, but became a financial journalist after being inspired by some university friends who moved from academia to the trading floors of investment banks.

He was the founder of Life & Pensions, a sister publication to Risk magazine which was aimed at the insurance and pensions industry. He sold Life & Pensions to Incisive Media in 2009.

In 2003 he broke the story of Greece hiding debt using swaps with Goldman Sachs. In 2007 He won the State Street award for institutional financial journalism.

He wrote a column called ‘Risky Finance’ for the financial commentary service Reuters Breakingviews from 2001 to 2010.

Education[edit]

Dunbard holds a A.M in Earth & Planetary Sciences from Harvard University. He also studied applied mathematics and theoretical physics at Cambridge University.
