Sean Smith is a Chicago-based listed derivatives professional who currently serves as a managing director of Qontigo for derivatives licensing.

Previously, he was a managing director of derivatives licenses at FTSE Russell.[1] He joined the FTSE Russell in March of 2017 from CME Group, where he served in multiple roles spanning 17 years, most recently as head of the CME's strategic account management group. Earlier, he held senior roles in the clearing, client development and sales divisions, including heading the global sales team covering bank clients. From 2001-2005, he managed FCM relations globally in the products and service division.[2]

He also served as the managing director of FCM relations for International Derivatives Clearing Group.

Background[edit]

Before joining CME Group, Smith was the global head of sales for the U.S. Futures Exchange.[3] [4] He left USFE in February of 2008. Before that he was director of sales at Eurex US.[5]

Smith began his career at O'Connor & Associates in the mid-1980s as a runner on the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. Later he became an equity derivatives trader in New York on the NYSE and AMEX. He also traded on the CME in S&P options and Eurodollars.

At ING and Fuji Bank he sold derivatives execution and clearing. He also was director of exchange and FCM relations at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.[6]

Smith earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial relations from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA.
