Steve Adamske is a Washington, DC based communications professional who serves as the vice president, head of communications and public affairs for the Futures Industry Association.[1] Adamske first joined the FIA as a consultant, serving in this role for most of 2018 in its Washington, DC office.

Previously, Adamske served as a director of public affairs to four CFTC chairmen and senior policy advisor to CFTC Commissioner Sharon Y. Bowen.[2][3][4]

Background[edit]

At the CFTC, Adamske's responsibilities included strategic planning and press strategy for market structure reforms contained in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. He also carried out the press strategy for then-CFTC Chairman Christopher Giancarlo’s initial proposals on the creation of a fintech initiative, Market Intelligence Branch, and the Project KISS initiative to simplify and streamline the commission’s rules.

Adamske previously served in the U.S. Treasury Department as the deputy assistant secretary for public affairs.[5] He was also the spokesperson for Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. Prior to the Treasury position, he had been communications director and senior staff member for the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee and its chairman, Barney Frank.[6]

Issues Adamske dealt with at the Treasury included major legislative and policy issues such as the Dodd-Frank Act, the 2008 financial crisis, housing policy and the automotive industry rescue.

Adamske served for eight years in the Clinton Administration and was a senior advance lead for Vice President Al Gore. He also held press roles for several members of Congress, including Senator Jon Corzine (D-N.J.), Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.).[7]

He also held press positions at the Department of Interior and the Federal Communications Commission.

Education[edit]

Adamske holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of California, Irvine.
