Stuart J. Kaswell is executive vice president and general counsel of Managed Funds Association.[1] As chief legal officer, Kaswell represents the hedge fund industry on domestic and international legislative and regulatory policy issues.


Before coming to MFA, Kaswell was a partner in Bryan Cave's[2] White Collar Defense & Investigations, Securities Litigations & Enforcement practice groups. Kaswell also was a partner in the financial services group at Dechert LLP. From 1994-2003, Kaswell served as senior vice president and general counsel for the Securities Industry Association.[3] Prior to SIA, Kaswell was minority counsel, House Committee on Energy and Commerce and from 1979-2003, he held several positions at the SEC, where he was, among other things, responsible for oversight of the NASD.


Kaswell received an A.B. in Political Science from Vassar College with general and departmental honors and his J.D. from Washington College of Law, The American University. His bar admissions include Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, U.S. Supreme Court and various Federal Courts.
