Alan B. Krueger is an economist and professor. He is a professor of economics at Princeton University.

He previously served as the head of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.[1] He was confirmed to the position by the U.S. Senate in November of 2011.[2]

Krueger had left his position at Princeton University to fill the White House spot. He replaced Austan Goolsbee in the White House position.[3]

Krueger is considered a liberal-moderate economist, but he has supporters on both sides of the aisle.[4] He is known as a labor economist who has advocated for a hiring tax credit for businesses and increased infrastructure spending.

Background[edit]

Krueger previously served as assistant secretary for economic policy and chief economist for the U.S. Department of Treasury.[5]

Since 1987 he has held a joint appointment in the Economics department and Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He is the founding director of the Princeton University Survey Research Center and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and of the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA).[6]

Education[edit]

He received a B.S. degree (with honors) from Cornell University's School of Industrial & Labor Relations in 1983, an A.M. in Economics from Harvard University in 1985, and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University in 1987 where he collaborated with Larry Summers, the White House’s former National Economic Council director.
