Filippo Lecchini is an Italian-born financial markets executive and risk management specialist, currently serving as chief executive officer of Phillip Capital Inc., a U.S.-registered futures commission merchant and broker-dealer based in Chicago.[1][2][3] Lecchini’s career spans roles in proprietary trading, risk management, and operational leadership with a focus on derivatives, equities, and clearing operations within regulated financial markets.[4]

Background[edit]

Filippo Lecchini has held leadership and risk oversight roles at several financial firms, with experience ranging from trading and risk supervision to executive management. He joined Phillip Capital Inc. in 2016 as chief risk officer, where he oversaw the firm’s risk committee and led efforts to implement technology-driven and process improvements in risk control, market analysis, and compliance.[5] Lecchini’s responsibilities included authoring market commentaries, collaborating with exchanges and regulators, and leading new product vetting and strategic business initiatives for the firm.

He was promoted to president of Phillip Capital Inc. in 2022, overseeing the firm and spearheading organizational adaptation to changes in market structure, regulatory mandates, and operational risk requirements.[6] In July 2023, Lecchini became chief executive officer, assuming responsibility for overall management, regulatory relationships, and strategic growth within U.S. derivatives and brokerage markets.

Before his tenure at Phillip Capital Inc., Lecchini served as vice president of market risk at Apex Clearing Corp, a Dallas- and Chicago-based clearing and custody firm where he implemented market risk procedures, managed technological integration for risk systems, and coordinated risk guidelines affecting capital optimization.[7] His role included direct interaction with OCC requirements, technology adaptation, and collateral management.

Lecchini’s early financial career was spent at PEAK6 Investments LP in Chicago, where he started as an equity options trader and advanced to assistant risk manager and senior risk analyst. In those roles, he oversaw trading and risk for proprietary accounts and introduced tools for reporting and analysis. He supported firm initiatives around special situations, including tender offers, mergers, and bankruptcies. He contributed to cross-functional technology development and process improvements in risk reporting and management, collaborating with IT and senior management.

Education[edit]

Filippo Lecchini holds a master's degree in economics from Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi in Milan (2001-2002), and obtained a second master's degree in economics at the University of Chicago (2002-2004).[8] He maintains active FINRA licenses including series 3, series 7, series 24, series 56, series 57, series 63, and series 99.
